A Day in the Life of a PEAK Snowsports Ski Instructor
Ever wondered what it’s really like to be a ski instructor in the Alps? At PEAK Snowsports, our instructors live full, active, and snow-filled days during the winter season. From the first lift to the last laugh at après, here’s a peek into a typical day in their boots!
☀️ Morning Rituals: Layers, Lattes & Lift Passes
The day kicks off early - usually around 7am. Most of us start with a quick gear check: skis tuned, boots dry, gloves found (hopefully). Layers? Check. Weather forecast? Checked twice. Then it’s time for a hearty breakfast - usually something protein-packed and carby to power us through the morning. We also take a few minutes to review the day’s lesson plan. Whether it’s a beginner group, a private client, or an advanced skier working on carving technique, we always go in with a plan and a smile!
🚠 The Daily Commute
Our commute? Not too bad. A short shuttle bus ride or drive to the Pleney or Avoriaz lifts, and then it’s up the mountain with the best views in the world. It never gets old.
🎿 Meeting Clients & Hitting the Slopes
We usually meet our clients at the top of the Prodains or Pleney bubbles or the designated lesson meeting point. There's time for a quick chat to break the ice, especially if it's their first time skiing. We love getting to know everyone. From excited first-timers to seasoned skiers looking to fine-tune their technique. After a quick skills assessment and a ride up the first lift, we set some personal goals for the day. Whether it’s mastering parallel turns, gaining confidence on blues, or tackling a tricky red run, we tailor the lesson to each client.
📝 Feedback & Lunchtime Refuel
At the end of the morning session, we give on-the-spot feedback and talk through progress. Then it’s time for a quick lunch break with our teammates. We know the slopes like the backs of our hands, so don’t hesitate to ask us for some great food recommendations - we will take you!
🏔️ Afternoon: More Lessons, More Smiles
Afternoon lessons kick off with renewed energy. Some clients return for a second session, while others are fresh faces. No matter who we’re teaching, the focus stays the same: helping skiers build confidence, improve technique, and have fun doing it.
🏋️ Après-Ski: Training at The Hive
Once lessons are wrapped up, many of us swap our ski boots for trainers and head to The Hive - our go-to spot for PEAK team fitness and training sessions. It’s all about staying strong, mobile, and ready for another big day on the slopes. At the gym, we surrender ourselves to the mercy of Maé who plans and coaches our gruelling workouts.
🍽️ Evening: Showers, Dinner & Le Crépu
Evenings are for a hot shower, a good dinner, and often a catch-up with the team over a drink at Le Crépu. It’s a local favourite for a reason - great vibes, cold beer, and usually at least one instructor telling a story about a dramatic (but harmless) fall from earlier that day.
💬 Final Thoughts
Being a ski instructor with PEAK Snowsports is more than just a job - it’s a lifestyle. It’s long days, sore legs, endless laughs, and the joy of helping people fall in love with skiing. So next time you see your instructor carving down the piste or laughing with their group - now you know a bit more about what goes into their day!
